Biography

Kayla Mohammadi’s paintings reflect her dual heritage – the bright, bold colors of Scandanavian design and the intricate, organic patterns of Islamic tiles and Persian rugs inspire her palette and approach to abstraction. Mohammadi received a BFA from the University of Washington, Seattle, and an MFA from Boston University.

She is currently a Lecturer in Fine Arts at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has been a visiting artist at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, St. Mary’s College in Maryland, Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., Northeastern University, Boston, MA and the University of Washington, Seattle.

Mohammadi has received awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation,The Dedalus Foundation and the Blanche E. Coleman Foundation. She lives in Boston and South Bristol, Maine and has exhibited her work in New York, New England and Beijing, China.
